Vancouver seeks to appropriate decrepit Sahota-owned slum hotels

The City of Vancouver filed last week an appropriation notice for the decrepit Balmoral and Regent hotels in the Downtown Eastside.
The notice kicked off a process that could take the two properties from the hands of their slum landlords and transfer them to public ownership, according to a news release by city staff.
