Civic boosters often predicted Vancouver would become western Canada’s biggest city after it was incorporated in 1886. But it took awhile for the population to catch up to the hype.
It finally happened on Aug. 13, 1931, when Vancouver passed Winnipeg to become the third-largest city in Canada.
