Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum defends budget aimed at cutting city debt
Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum came to the defence of the first budget of his term in a news conference Tuesday, calling it “one of the best budgets I’ve seen.”
The proposed financial plan includes a 2.9 per cent tax increase and cuts to planned community resources that total more than $135 million. Set to be axed are ice rinks in Cloverdale, community centre and library expansion plans, child care projects, policing infrastructure and parks, among other things.
