Suing for sexual assault: Look before you leap

In the Jan. 15 edition of The Vancouver Sun, Howard Levitt, a well-known lawyer specializing in employment law, outlined all the advantages to an alleged victim of sexual assault who sues the alleged perpetrator civilly rather than making a criminal complaint. Everything Mr. Levitt wrote was true, but as the saying goes, it was not the whole truth. There are at least three reasons why someone may not want to sue on a civil basis for sexual assault:
