Should Surrey have its own police force? It's a question worth asking, says councillor
Surrey needs a referendum to decide if the city would be better served by its own municipal force in place of an RCMP detachment, said a councillor who’s running for mayor of the city.
A motion to direct city staff to propose a third-party review of the city’s police services, which would lead to a referendum in 2019, is to be put to council next week by Coun. Tom Gill, mayoral candidate for the Surrey First party.
“The question is, have we outgrown the RCMP?” said Gill.
