I had a colleague who not too long ago told me that his parents raised him with the ethos of “work to live, not live to work”, which he understood to mean that you should work to pay the bills and enjoy your life. Sage advice, I thought. Sage advice that my colleague seemed to disregard as he clocked out after another 50-hour work week. Looking back at it, it seems a little ironic that that very same colleagues parents’ told him to chase his dreams unreservedly.
