Opinion: Dementia doesn’t define a person
January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and people across Canada are standing up and saying, “I live with dementia. Let me help you understand.”
A recent Leger-conducted online survey showed that almost 50 per cent of British Columbians would not want others to know if they were diagnosed with dementia. While awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias is growing, the stigma experienced by the individuals and families who are affected remains a reality.
