North Vancouver power outage blamed on balloon

A helium balloon is being blamed for a B.C. Hydro outage that cut power to more than 12,000 customers in North Vancouver on Wednesday morning.
B.C. Hydro spokesperson Mora Scott says witnesses reported seeing metallic mylar balloons floating into the power lines near the Capilano substation.
“When our crews arrived the balloon had already burned up, so we can’t for sure say it was caused by balloons — but it’s suspected,” Scott said.
