New legislation to boost oversight, reduce rate hikes at BC Hydro
VICTORIA — The province’s independent energy regulator will get more power to scrutinize B.C. Hydro’s long-term energy plans, but remains forbidden from rebalancing rates and increasing bills for customers.
Energy Minister Michelle Mungall said legislative changes proposed on Monday will restore the B.C. Utilities Commission’s power to review and approve Hydro’s 20-year plan to meet electricity demand. The next plan is set to be produced Feb. 28, 2021.
