Man dead after snowmobile falls from collapsed cornice near Whistler
A Nanaimo man has died after he and his snowmobile fell from a hardened mass of snow that collapsed near Whistler’s Mt. Callaghan.
Around 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Whistler RCMP were called to mt. Callaghan, near Callaghan Lake Provincial Park. Witnesses reported seeing a snowmobiler stop on a cornice before it collapsed and the man and the snowmobile fell about 250 feet and became partially buried.
Whistler Search and Rescue, alongside a doctor, were called in to search the area by helicopter.
