Long weekend encounters show Vancouver Island’s wild nature

It was a wild long weekend in more ways than one as police and conservation officers were kept busy dealing with animal encounters on Vancouver Island.
A herd of deer ran over a woman in Oak Bay. A black bear startled a walker in Saanich. And a dog was killed in a suspected wolf attack at Chesterman Beach near Tofino.
Wildlife experts say the incidents serve as important reminders about the close proximity of wild animals on the Island and the steps people can take to protect themselves and thei
