Letters, March 21: Excessive media coverage of terrorist acts motivates killers, reader argues
I’m concerned that the amount of media coverage of events such as the New Zealand shootings is motivating perpetrators to commit these horrific crimes.
The people who do these things are sick and often motivated by a desire to achieve fame or, rather, infamy. Such a story should definitely be covered by the media, but the level of coverage should be scaled back to provide only relevant information. Also, the perpetrator shouldn’t be identified as that is what they want.
