Larry Green: Innocence — lost and found

Nine/11, according to some, was the moment when America lost its innocence. Others located that loss in Dallas — when JFK was assassinated.
“Loss of innocence” — the phrase gives me pause — what does it mean? I think of the numerous covert operations organized by the CIA to overthrow or undermine democratically elected governments in Latin America. According to that record, America is culpable, not innocent.
That is, if we think of innocence as moral purity.
