Firefighters battling barge fire on Fraser River in Surrey

A fire burning on a barge in the Fraser River in Surrey filled the air over Metro Vancouver with acrid grey smoke on Friday morning.
The barge, located east of the Patullo Bridge, appears to be loaded with old cars and the fire is contained to the industrial site. Surrey Fire crews are working to put out the blaze.
Witnesses have posted photos on social media showing the fire sending a huge plume of black smoke in the air. Several people said it sounded like cars were exploding.
