Election hopefuls propose using Vancouver school board property as housing for teachers
The San Francisco story of a high-school teacher making US$65,000 a year who lost her home to foreclosure sent a gasp through The Bay Area that is suffering from a housing crisis in which the gap between essential-workers’ incomes and the affordability of shelter has long been widening.
The moment prompted city and school officials to commit more than US$40 million in public funds last year toward up to 150 units of affordable housing specifically for teachers.
