Dragon Boat boss talks 30 years of racing
It’s been 32 years since Hong Kong sent six teak dragon boats to Vancouver for Expo 86; the 2,000-year-old sport had never been seen in North America.
In 1989, 16 boats converged on False Creek for the inaugural Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival. Now for the June 22-24 event more than 200 teams and 5,500 paddlers from across Canada, seven U.S. states and, among other countries, Germany, Australia, China and the Philippines will be racing in False Creek.
