Daphne Bramham: Vancouver Aquarium takes a step into the future

During the late 1800s, humans were among the living creatures featured in zoos across Europe and in at least three in the U.S.
All of them were Indigenous people, including Inuit ‘collected’ in 1880 for display in Hamburg. For a while, the displays were wildly popular. But times changed — albeit slowly. It was well into the 20th century when human zoos were banned.
