Beothuk 'genocide' remembered 200 years after kidnapping and murder

One of the saddest days in the history of colonialism and Aboriginal People is being remembered at an East Vancouver art gallery.
Tuesday, March 5, marks the 200th anniversary of the kidnapping and murder of some of the last Beothuk in Newfoundland.
On that day in 1819 a group of settlers captured a woman named Demasduit at Red Indian Lake. Her husband, Nonosabasut, went to defend her and was shot and killed. So was his brother.
