B.C. judge rejects challenge in polygamy case by two men with 29 wives between them
CRANBROOK – Convictions of two polygamists from the fundamentalist Mormon community of Bountiful were upheld Friday in the B.C. Supreme Court.
Justice Sheri Donegan rejected claims that they had been unfairly prosecuted and that their constitutional right to a fair trial had been breached.
The decision clears the way for the sentencing of Winston Blackmore and James Oler on one count each of polygamy. The maximum penalty is five years in jail.
