Pride and fear in North Bay during the Bomarc era

At one time, North Bay was at the heart of the Cold War.
The Bo-Mark Motel’s sign on Highway 11 North near the truck stops is a reminder. And further up the highway, the new growth obscures the hill and the remains of what was one of the most strategic places in Canada.
In the fall of 1958, Prime Minister John Diefenbaker’s Conservative government announced an agreement with the U.S. to deploy two squadrons of Bomarc (Boeing and the Michigan Aeronautical Research Centre) anti-aircraf
