Upper ridge leads to record-breaking high temperature in Nanaimo

It felt hot enough in Nanaimo to fry an egg on a sidewalk yesterday as the thermometer mercury rose to a record high.
In a Thursday, July 23 communiqué, Environment Canada said Nanaimo broke a 32-year-old daily temperature record with a high of 34.6 C on Wednesday, July 22 – the previous high of 33.3 C set on the same day in 1994.
