Staff report requested on possibility of Nanaimo banning continuous-flame butane lighters

What the City of Nanaimo can do to mitigate the harms of continuous-flame butane lighters will be the subject of a staff report.
Council unanimously voted for the report at its meeting on Oct. 5, after hearing from frontline workers of the harm they cause in the community in regards to fires, displacement of people and causing at least one death in the city.
Staff are being asked to explore ways in which the city could regulate the retail sale of the lighters, and other proactive measures to inc
