North Cowichan councillor seeks to prohibit data centres across municipality

A North Cowichan councillor is asking the municipality to get ahead of potential developments of data centres by prohibiting them as a land use throughout the municipality.
Coun. Christ Istace will bring a motion to council Sept. 2 directing staff to prepare a zoning bylaw amendment that would define and prohibit data centres as a permitted land use.
Istace said the move is entirely proactive and was not prompted by a current data centre proposal or inquiry in North Cowichan.
