LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Nanaimo parking policies

To the editor,
Parking is an ongoing problem in Nanaimo as elsewhere. The city has bylaws regarding suites in homes and carriage houses.
The bylaw is clear: if you have a suite or carriage house on your property you must provide an additional parking space on your property.
This sounds like a good policy to avoid overcrowded streets. The city’s position is you don’t have to use these spaces, you can park anywhere, even in front of your neighbour’s home without penalty.
