Fire at Comox Valley bike shop caused by lithium battery

The investigation into a Cumberland fire on Aug. 16 has been completed.
The culprit was a lithium battery that seemingly exploded while charging overnight.
“A reminder for everyone to avoid leaving electric batteries charging overnight while unattended. Being present while charging can help you detect any issues early and may help prevent a fire. Stay safe and take care when charging lithium batteries,” reads the release.
