Comox Valley fire crews tackle mattress fire at landfill

Cumberland, Courtenay, and Oyster River fire departments attended to a mattress fire at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre landfill on Sunday, Sept. 13.
At approximately 6:16 p.m., Cumberland Fire Rescue was alerted to what was initially thought to be a structure fire when residents made calls to 911 after seeing a column of black smoke in the landfill’s vicinity.
