Black bear attack injures hiker on Comox Valley trail

An injured hiker who was attacked by a black bear on July 19 on a Cumberland trail near the Bevan Wetlands has been released from hospital.
The attack occurred when two hikers retrieving their off-leash dogs encountered a family of black bears, according to a Facebook post made by province’s Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS).
“The BCCOS investigation determined the attack was defensive in nature. No efforts to locate or capture the bears will be made,” the post said.
