Canada Pride Montreal 2017 kicked off its first edition with the hoisting of a rainbow Pride flag to a crowd full of smiles in Parc des Faubourgs Friday night. 
Despite being welcomed on to the stage by a small chorus of “boos” ahead of the flag raising, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre elicited a joyous reaction from the crowd of a few hundred after sharing a message of reconciliation with both Indigenous and LGBTQ+ communities.
