UPDATED: Woman in stable condition after brutal beating on Ste-Catherine St.

A 22-year-old woman has seen her medical condition upgraded to stable from critical after being the victim of a savage beating on Ste-Catherine St. early Monday.
The incident occurred at 2 a.m. near Amherst St. Police responded to 911 calls that a man was beating a woman on the street, witnesses telling investigators he continued to strike her even as she was on the ground.
The severe injuries to her head and face were deemed at first to be life threatening.
