Smog warning in effect; wood burning illegal in Montreal
Environment Canada has issued a smog warning for Montreal Island, Châteauguay, Laval and Longueuil/Varennes. For those who live within city of Montreal limits, that means no wood burning until the warning is lifted.
Montreal’s bylaw on the use of wood-burning stoves and fireplaces, which forbids wood burning during smog warnings, came into force in August 2015. Environment Canada says high levels of pollutants are expected to begin Sunday evening and persist until Monday morning.
