Refugees in Quebec: More than 3,700 interceptions by RCMP in August
The RCMP has intercepted more than 3,700 asylum seekers crossing into Quebec since the beginning of August, Chief Superintendent Claude Castonguay said on Thursday.
That equates to between 200 and 300 asylum seekers per day, said Patrick Lefort, regional director general for Quebec at Canada Border Services Agency. The news was shared at a press conference near the temporary camp at St-Bernard-de-Lacolle with officials from the RCMP and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in attendance.
