Opinion: As Toronto unites, some remain excluded

Discussion of last week’s van attack in Toronto has, at times, felt a bit off base.
The quick work of the first responders and Good Samaritans, the actions of the police officer who arrested the suspect without a shot, the outpouring of sympathy for the victims’ families — all of these things have been repeatedly held up as indicators of a healthy, well-functioning society, one with a deep and inclusive sense of community.
