Once-forgotten war hero honoured with memorial plaque in Lachine
On the shores of the lake where he learned to sail as a boy, Canada paid homage on Thursday to James Campbell Clouston for helping to save 338,000 Allied soldiers on the beaches of Dunkirk.
The goal was to bring recognition to a war hero whose actions over six days during the Second World War had gone largely unknown by the Canadian populace, despite the fact that one of the orchestrators of the “Miracle of Dunkirk” grew up right here in Montreal.
