Next-generation Phantom of the Opera darker and grittier than predecessors

Derrick Davis wants to bring a bit of added grit to The Phantom of the Opera.
“After reading the (Gaston) Leroux novel, I felt that the character deserved to be ugly at some moments in the show,” said Davis, who plays the Phantom in the current touring version of the unbelievably popular Andrew Lloyd Webber/Charles Hart/Richard Stilgoe musical that runs Oct. 4-15 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier of Place des Arts.
