Montreal's forgotten history: Rebel and crusader Dr. Norman Bethune
Marian Scott tells the story of Dr. Norman Bethune, a hero to the people of China, who died in 1939 in service to the republic.
A statue of Bethune, donated to the city of Montreal by the People’s Republic of China, is passed by thousands daily near Concordia University in downtown Montreal.
Bethune was a surgeon by training who worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. He was also an early champion of socialized medicine.
