Montreal unemployment rate rises slightly, remains below Toronto

Montreal’s unemployment rate rose 0.3 percentage points from 5.9 per cent in April to 6.2 per cent in May.
It was down 0.2 percentage points from May 2017.
The increase comes despite the addition of 6,500 jobs in the Montreal region during the month.
That was due to an increase in the labour force — the number of people employed or actively searching for work — driven by population growth and an increase in the number of people looking for work.
