Montreal officially bids to be a 2026 World Cup host city

Montreal announced its official candidacy to be a host city for the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. 
The men’s World Cup, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre said in a statement, “is the second most important sporting event in the world after the Olympic Games. That’s why Montreal wants to be involved.”
Both the Olympic Stadium and Saputo Stadium have been mooted as potential sites for the tournament, but Montreal’s statement does not clarify which site would be used.
