Man gets seven-year sentence for smuggling 25 guns into Canada

A man who smuggled 25 firearms into Canada by sneaking on foot across the border near the Lacolle crossing told police he took the risk to settle debts with drug dealers who had advised him to shoot police officers if he was ever caught.
Thanh Viet Pham, 38, was sentenced earlier this week at the Montreal courthouse to an overall prison term of seven years for his attempt two years ago to sneak into Canada, through snow, while carrying a backpack full of guns and while carrying a loaded firearm.
