Dining out with kids can be great or gruesome, and a lot of that depends on the age of the kids, the level of hunger upon arrival and restaurant you choose. I prefer to eat quickly with the kiddies at the table, avoid anything overly fancy (unless your children are budding gourmets), and make sure the eatery in question adds fun to the equation.
