Kanesatake voters give Simon third consecutive mandate

Serge “Otsi” Simon has been re-elected as Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council of Kanesatake.
Simon won his third consecutive mandate by defeating council chief Lourena Montour in Saturday’s election.
Simon said he won the vote tally by a 245-to-169 margin.
“No one has ever won three mandates in a row as Grand Chief in Kanesatake,” said 56-year-old Simon.
He said one of his main election platforms was job-creation through green technologies.
