Hydro-Québec to join annual trek to Irish Black Rock
The Irish of Montreal have doing the annual Walk to the Stone for over 150 years.
They always will.
It has been a deeply symbolic, even spiritual event for the Irish community to commemorate those who died after arriving in Montreal during the Great Famine of 1847. More than 6,000 dead are said to be buried beneath the imposing Black Rock, a tombstone like no other in Montreal.
The Black Rock sits in the middle of Bridge St. and commemorates the Irish typhus victims who died in fever sheds soon
