Hydro-Québec asks for 1.1% rate increase

Hydro-Québec says it plans to ask Quebec’s Régie de l’énergie for permission to raise hydro rates by 1.1 per cent.
The requested increase is motivated by higher electricity purchase costs and planned infrastructure spending, the crown corporation said.
If approved, the increase would affect all residential electricity users and most business users. It would go into effect on April 1.
The utility said its rates will remain the lowest in North America.
