Mayor Valérie Plante is asking the Quebec Justice Department for authorization to perform weddings in Montreal.
A Quebec law passed in 2002 makes it possible for members of municipal councils to marry couples on their territory, provided the council passes a resolution authorizing them to do so, and asking the provincial Justice Department to name them as “competent celebrants.”
