Couillard favours more UPAC oversight as Ouellette crisis simmers

QUEBEC — The Couillard government moved to quench the fire raging over who controls the police in Quebec, saying it is in favour of the idea of creating a surveillance committee to oversee the province’s anti-corruption unit.
With even top Liberals saying they are not satisfied with the answers furnished by UPAC to justify its stunning arrest of a sitting member of the National Assembly, Guy Ouellette, six days ago Premier Philippe Couillard offered the committee.
