Construction holiday: It's still an American tradition for many Quebecers
Once the hammering stops at Quebec construction sites this week, it’s possible many of the province’s construction workers will be spending part of their vacation pay south of the border.
This year, the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) issued 148,500 vacation paycheques, worth about $400 million. That’s about 10 per cent more than the $364 million issued in 2016 because of a jump in activity in the construction sector in the second half of that year.
