Celine Cooper: Raif Badawi deserves honorary citizenship

When it comes to standing up for jailed Saudi Arabian blogger Raif Badawi, Quebec is once again leading the charge. 
City councillors Marvin Rotrand and Lionel Perez have tabled a motion to declare Badawi an honorary citizen of Montreal. The motion will be debated on May 28.
Imprisoned since 2012 for promoting free speech and questioning the central role of religion in Saudi Arabia, Badawi was sentenced in 2014 to 10 years and 1,000 lashes. His wife, Ensaf Haidar, was granted asyl
