Canadiens sign Phillip Danault to three-year, $9.249-million contract

The Canadiens and Phillip Danault have avoided salary arbitration.
The club announced on Sunday afternoon that the 25-year-old centre has agreed to terms on a new three-year contract worth US$9,249,999 that has an annual salary-cap hit of $3.083 million.
Danault, who was a restricted free agent, filed for salary arbitration earlier this month  but was still allowed to negotiate and sign a contract before NHL arbitration hearings begin on July 20. In 52 games last season, Danault posted 8-1
