More than 5,000 customers without power as snow touches down on Vancouver Island

More than 5,000 BC Hydro customers are without power Friday as snow continues to fall on many regions of Vancouver Island. As of 2:45 p.m., the majority of the outages are located in the South Island in the Lake Cowichan area, with approximately 4,010 residents and businesses without electricity. According to BC Hydro, the outages were caused by a transmission circuit failure in the area. Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 people are without power on Pender Island after a tree fell down across power lines
