Canada's main stock index edges higher, Canadian dollar down

TORONTO -- Canada's main stock index was up marginally Tuesday morning, with gains coming from a number of sectors. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 40.37 points at 16,559.25 in late morning trading. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 92.19 points at 27,264.09. The S&P 500 index was up 8.44 points at 2,993.47, while the Nasdaq composite was up 12.8 points at 8,216.94.
