‘Our women need to be protected’: Cold Lake First Nations opens its first women's shelter

A new women’s shelter in northeastern Alberta allows a First Nation community to support some of its most vulnerable members while keeping them connected to their community and culture. On Monday, Cold Lake First Nations, located about 280 kilometres northeast of Edmonton, held the grand opening of its first dedicated women’s shelter.
